Having acne issues with dry skin sometimes feels like a lose-lose situation. Many of the beauty products designed to fight acne are meant for oily skin and just make the dry skin worse. Toner is a versatile solution that can treat both conditions. Toner can be used as the second step in a cleansing process, help clear pores and also help soothe acne breakouts.
Many of us with dry skin have shied away from toners because we heard they could dry out our already moisture-deprived skin and the other benefits have been a bit unclear. When you make it at home you get the best of both worlds -- cost savings, more product and benefits for dry or problem skin. So try this sweet orange and rose toner for younger, clearer, better-looking skin.
How to Make It:
Distilled Water: (2 ounces)
Distilled water is just a type of water purified by boiling the impurities out of it. You can do it yourself or buy it by the gallon in any supermarket or discount store.
Witch Hazel: (1 ounce)
Witch Hazel is derived from the leaves and bark of the plant by the same name. It has several medicinal uses and appears in a clear liquid.
Aloe Juice: (1 ounce)
Aloe juice comes from the pulp of the aloe plant. It’s used for a number of health benefits and can be found in most health food stores.
Sweet Almond Oil: (Half a teaspoon)
Sweet almond oil comes from pressing the kernels of the plant by the same name. It’s often used in cosmetics and as a massage oil.
Rosewater Concentrate: (20 drops)
Rosewater Concentrate is made by combining rose oil, alcohol, and distilled water. It’s a more affordable alternative to pure rose oil, but you still get the same healing properties and fragrance.
Lavender Oil: (10 drops)
Lavender oil is derived from the distillation of lavender flowers. It’s often used in the production of perfume.
Sweet Orange Oil: (10 drops)
Orange oil comes the cold pressing of the rinds of the fruit. It’s most often used in aromatherapy for its soothing smell.
Once you have gathered all of the ingredients, mix them together in a spray bottle. Use a glass spray bottle if possible. Essential oils can break down plastic over time. Bisphenol A (BPA) from certain types of plastic can leak toxins into the products.
How to Use It:
You can use this toner on its own or as a part of a multipart skin care routine. Wash your face and pat it dry with a clean towel. Apply liberally to the skin, avoiding your eyes and mouth. Do not rinse from your face. Toner is meant to be left on the skin. Then, apply moisturizer as desired.
Benefits of Toner:
This sweet orange and rose toner helps restore moisture after cleansing while still maintaining the skin's natural balance. It can help with skin issues like rashes, acne flare-ups, and inflammation because the rose water concentrate has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
The sweet orange oil in this toner promotes the production of collagen and increases blood flow, resulting in firmer plumper skin and soothes dryness. Rose water concentrate can rejuvenate, soften, and tone mature skin. It can also add a glow to dry to normal skin.
